Loxocemus bicolor is a new species and family for me, although the family, Loxocemidae, is monotypic. It’s a beautiful snake that reflects a rainbow of colors in the sunlight. Additionally, it’s large, strong, and semi-fosorial.

between this and the rattlesnake, you have seen some beautiful animals…why are there white patches on the sunbeamer…are they missing scales?
They aren’t missing scales, but we did noticed the white patches too. I heard another one had been caught with a similar patterning the same day, but I didn’t see it myself, so I’m a bit skeptical.
