Another hike through Bear’s Den

Éva and Eva explore a stream draining into Mill Creek at Bear’s Den.  This was the first park we visited with Eva, and it was the first time I saw her substantially wag her tail.  She also had no problem barrelling through the water – although it seemed to surprise her, as if she hadn’t expected ‘wetness’.   Éva, on the other hand, was a seasoned park goer, and had begun to step onto rocks to avoid getting wet.

Eva checks for predators.

Fearlessly crossing the stream.

Eva can't jump the log.

News of Éva

Through teary eyes, I write that Éva was hit and killed last night by a vehicle.  Allison and I are currently in West Palm Beach, where Allison competed in the South East Regional CrossFit competition (I’ll obviously post more), and Éva was being watched by a friend in Atlanta.  She escaped, likely in attempt to find Allison and I, and was reported hit by an animal rescue or veterinary clinic this morning.  I wish to share some photographs of her that I had queued, but not completed posts for, to spread the sad news.

One excited dog

In the apartment, on the leash, around people, around other dogs, and even around feeding times, Éva is generally calm and alert to the point that she seems depressed and fearful still.  But, when she encounters sand, and occasionally a large, grassy field without other people around, something clicks and she becomes an excitable dog, running in circles with her tail between her legs.
