Much of the mountains seen from Santa Barbara and the small town of Golita where Raja’s living are protected by Los Padres National Forest, views from which Raja and I enjoyed during my visit in November. Here are some photos of the views, along with Raja and my rental car…

Acid hydrolysis
Because 60 small (50 mL) flasks look cool.
Add concentrated sulfuric acid and produce an oxidized slurry of organic matter.
Dilute the acid with distilled water, cover and autoclave the slurry

Pre-weigh glass fiber filters
Vacuum-filter slurry onto the pre-weighed filters
Dry and reweigh filters.
