Gymnastics Allstars
Last fall, I went to the Gymnastics Allstars event held at the Quicken Arena in Cleveland. Most of the athletes that participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics performed some mediocre routines with crappy teen-rock playing in the background and strobe lights flashing. I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money on an event like this unless you’re a 10 year-old girl.
Anyway, the one cool part, I thought, was when a few little girls performed a floor routine. On the right, you can just make one out doing a blurry cartwheel.
No Swimming at this Sunset
At an old theme park, Allison and I ate greasy french fries and watched children wade, but not swim, in the lake at sunset.
Dark Stream
This gloomy picture was taken in a marsh about a quarter mile behind my parents house. The darkness of the stream is in stark contrast to what I had encountered just prior to taking the photograph; two fox cubs wrestling. 
View of Cedar Point
The 420-ft of towering steel making up the Top Thrill Dragster across just a small portion of Lake Erie appears less massive than the aluminum of a 12-oz can of cola.
Gull
This was my first attempt to get a shot of a bird with my new Olympus e-420. Although I had to crop most of the sky from the original image, the picture, taken with the kit lens, turned out decently. I think the gull’s neatly tucked away feet look cool.
Anatomy of a fish
Here, Mike gets a first look at the internal anatomy of a yellow perch (Perca flavescens). This opportunity was provided at the Stone Laboratory on Lake Erie for a class in Aquatic Ecology. There will be more perch pictures, but not quite as gruesome.
First shots
This is one of the first shots I took with my Canon PowerShot. It was exciting to see the vividness of the colors in this unedited photography when I first viewed it. The picture was taken of my house and grandfather’s barn across an alfalfa field in November. The flat terrain reminds me of Ohio, but I assure you, there’s a hill behind me.

Pumpkin Drop
Since I’m feeling somewhat destructive, I thought I’d post a sequence depicting what happens when a several hundred pound pumpkin is dropped onto a trailer from 90 ft in the air. You may have to look closely; this was a popular event and I was unable to get as close as I wanted…
