A juvenile Leptodeira nigrofasciata.  This makes three in one genus.

A brilliant female Sceloporus variabilis 

Trachecephalus venulosa secretes a really nasty, whitish, irritant when handled. I haven’t experienced it, but a couple folks here think it’s a devil.

  This is one of the most common Leptodactylid frogs caught in the drift fences Mahmood has set up.  The other, Leptodactylus melanonotus, is more common, but both are only slightly bigger than a spring peeper or other Pseudacris.

They’re fun to photograph.

I don’t think I posted any spider monkey pictures yet.  Mammals are kind of lame.  They are really hard to catch, there are many fewer species, and they basically come in one color: brown.

When I have a high fever, I have a reoccurring dream about walking through a dark forest and being attacked by several claymation-like evil rabbits.  It reminds me of the trip the baby bear has after eating a mushroom in The Bear.  I’ve had the same dream since I was a kid and only when I have a high fever.  It’s always terrifying.

When I saw this picture, it reminded me of the dream (and having a fever), and I immediately broke out into a cold-sweat.  The rabbits in the dream also have glowing red eyes, but they have white fur. 

Boa and I made an attempt to catch one of about 10 baby pisotes (coati) that we discovered in the forest.  We weren’t smart enough to capture them.  There home appearred to be a cave nearby and there were three adults around them.

There is an abundance of both Green Iguana (Iguana iguana) and Black Iguana (Ctenosaura similis) juveniles about the station.  These two species are the largest terrestrial lizards around here, although the ctenosaur is much more abundant in the dry forest.  I’ve only seen two green iguanas, both of which were larger than the largest ctenosaur around the station.  Obviously, though, they are reproducing…

The ctenosaur juveniles are around every corner, and Charles witnessed two being consumed by Turquoise-browed motmots.
